India's DPDP Act, the UAE's PDPL (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), and the EU's GDPR all regulate personal data processing — but they don't start from the same place. GDPR offers six lawful bases under Article 6, with consent as just one option. UAE PDPL is consent-first by default under Article 4, with a defined set of exceptions. DPDP's consent framework under Section 7 sits somewhere between the two.
For a platform operating across all three, the practical implication is that a single 'consent banner' cannot be the whole compliance story — the underlying lawful-basis logic has to be region-aware, not just the language on the banner.
